Horn Frames

From the 13th century, some of the earliest eyewear frames were made from horn, a natural thermoplastic. Long before modern plastics, this material provided the right balance of strength and flexibility. Plus, it is lightweight and has a beautiful surface quality.

Starting in 2003, I created several frames from buffalo horn and sheep horn, in small-batch production and for custom designs. The frames were made in a combination of CNC-machining and hand-finishing. Hinges were fabricated from white gold and stainless steel.
