Design Consulting

From 2000-2004, I worked as a product designer for Design Concepts, Inc. (now Delve Design). There, I worked on over 30 projects, and was named on 17 patents. Below are a handful of the projects from that time, all completed with multi-disciplinary teams of designers, engineers, researchers, and prototyping specialists.

Today, I teach product design full-time at Appalachian State University in North Carolina.

Wilson Triad Tennis Racquet

Member of the design team at Delve (formerly Design Concepts, Inc.). The design challenge was to develop the aesthetics of a new two-part racquet, integrating and highlighting a vibration-dampening insert between the yoke and frame. I worked on sketches and ideation, and am named on the design patent.

HANDHELD MUSCLE STIMULATOR

Member of the design team at Delve. The design challenge was to create a hand-held TENS device, able to used by anyone from age 16-75. Worked closely with the engineering team, and focused on ergonomics, aesthetics, and cord management.

Schutt DNA Football helmet

Member of the design team at Delve. The design challenge was to develop the aesthetics, venting, and ergonomics of the shell for the new DNA impact-absorbing padding system. I worked on sketches, ideation, and sculpted the clay models.

Hospira IV infusion Pump

Member of the design team at Delve. Design challenge was to develop an intuitive and inviting interface, and develop features for enhanced cord/hose management. I worked on ergonomics, aesthetics, and cord/hose management features.

Wilson Adjustable Youth Batting helmet

Member of the design team at Delve (formerly Design Concepts, Inc.). The design challenge was to develop the aesthetics and ergonomics for an adjustable helmet. The goal was to mimimize the number of helmets that a little league team would have to purchase.

WILSON DEEP RED IRONS

Member of the design team at Delve. The design challenge was to develop a new aesthetic for a new dual-density vibration-dampening insert. I worked on sketches, ideation, and developed models for project.

PLAYGROUND CONCEPTS FOR BCI BURKE

Member of the design team at Delve. The design challenge was to invent new ways to play, using existing in-house manufacturing technology. Worked on research, ideation, and concept development.

ZOOPALS UTENSIL DESIGNS

Member of the design team at Delve, consulting for Dixie/Pactiv. The design challenge was to create a line of semi-disposable utensils for children, which used the anatomy of animals as part of the utensil’s function. I worked on concept development, focused on ergonomics & aesthetics.

Bretford ‘Liquid’ Furniture System

Aiming at high-tech companies, Bretford and Delve sought to develop an office furniture system that could easily adapt to demand for electrical outlets and quickly changing personnel needs. I was part of the team that developed the modular and moveable power and data track system. The system was meant to accommodate open-office environments with regular team movement, allowing for fast changes to the furniture (screens, desks, etc.), as well as data/power infrastructure.
